Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

But there was a lot of sweating this weekend. Not due to home renovation stress, just humid summer days. And as for the small stuff- it’s getting done! One by one the rooms are looking more and more like rooms and less like a construction site.

Jared and I have been painting A LOT and meanwhile Dad’s been ticking off a punch list. Like the living room fir floor that we’re saving but due to the demo of the walls, now has a 1-3 inch gap around the edges. Jared came up with the idea of laying a single board of fir along the perimeter to create a border. You see borders and corner details in a lot of older homes so we think it’s going to look just perfect. IMG_1062 IMG_1061

Don’t worry about all those scratches. It will sand up real nice. But by a professional! Not me and not with a hand sander. Never. Again.

But moving on… then there was a hole in the floor by the front door. Probably an old heating grate but now a scary plummet to the basement. Dad patched that up in a jiffy.

IMG_1066We’re going to paint it the same metallic silver as all the radiators in the house. I know that most people paint radiators the wall color so they disappear but we decided ours were so lovely and detailed why not show those suckers off?

And as for those floors, they look a lot better than carpet but not good enough to sand and stain. For now, we’re going to paint them to save some money on all the hardwoods we’re buying for the rest of the house. Here’s the blue room…
